White Hat Rally Day 2: Journey to Locarno Part.1

The start of Day 2 was great. We woke up (really early again!), got ready, and had the best breakfast of the trip! And yes, we were dressed in tux’s! It was all part of the James Bond theme of the rally. The view out of the window while we were having breakfast was amazing. We were staying about 10 miles out of Thun, above the lakes in the mountains in Hotel Baumgarten – Aeschi bei Spiez. It was a lovely place with really amazing views. It was a shame it was still raining so much!

We then had a group portrait with all the cars when we rendezvoused just below Piz Gloria. This is the location where part of the James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. It was highly challenging trying to get good shots in the really really bad weather, but a few ziplock bags and my camera in a carrier bag did the job. I would have liked to have higher elevation for the group shot because the cars were arranged in a V formation, but once again it just wasnt practical in the weather.

After the group shot, we carried on to Trümmelbachfälle / Trummelbach falls, Lauterbrunnen. Made accessible by a tunnel lift, these were some spectacular indoor cave waterfalls! Well worth the visit if you’re ever in the area. It was quite funny because I was strolling around in this place in a full tuxedo with a camera getting absolutely drenched early in the morning. Needless to say I got some weird looks!
